Our Story

The Feral Ecologies Lab (FEL) is an innovative think-and-action tank that merges interdisciplinary expertise in complexity, ecology, and culture to address some of the most pressing ecological and social challenges of our time. We focus on multisolving—creating solutions that simultaneously address both ecological and social requirements. By deeply understanding how these processes interact and feed back on one another, we aim to design systems that are intelligent, sustainable, and resilient, ultimately leading to a society that is less self-defeating and more beneficial for all.

Our Mission

At FEL, we believe that recognizing and addressing the intricate feedback loops between social and ecological processes is key to designing more effective and sustainable policies and business strategies. Our mission is to help governments, businesses, and communities better understand these dynamics, enabling them to create solutions that foster healthier, more agile, and more inclusive social ecosystems. This approach not only addresses immediate challenges but also cultivates the conditions necessary for organic public buy-in, adherence, and long-term goodwill.

The Lab

The Feral Ecologies Lab was founded by a collective of scholars, researchers, and practitioners. From its inception, FEL has been committed to a holistic understanding of how social and ecological systems interact. This perspective allows us to explore and address a wide range of issues, from sustainable urban planning and public health to climate resilience and social equity. Our work is informed by a deep understanding of the structural and systemic factors that influence these dynamics, and we strive to create solutions that are not only effective but also just and inclusive.

Our Main Goals

Advancing Multidisciplinary Research, Analysis, and Policy Development

FEL conducts groundbreaking research that examines the complex interplay between social and ecological systems. Our work is informed by a deep understanding of how these systems interact to produce both positive and negative outcomes. By addressing these issues holistically, we contribute to the development of policies and strategies that are both sustainable and equitable.

Building Relationships Across Disciplines and Sectors

Collaboration is at the heart of our work. We partner with community organizations, policymakers, businesses, and other stakeholders to ensure that our research is aligned with real-world needs. These partnerships help us to develop more effective solutions and to build the capacity needed to address complex challenges at scale.

Engaging Communications and Culture to Amplify Impact

We recognize the power of narrative and culture in shaping public understanding and policy. Our communications efforts go beyond traditional messaging to engage with the broader cultural narratives that influence how people think about and respond to ecological and social issues. By reframing these debates, we aim to shift public discourse in ways that support more sustainable and inclusive outcomes.

Making a Difference

FEL operates with a unique model that allows us to address challenges in a way that is both comprehensive and scalable. Our work is focused on a few key areas where we believe we can have the most significant impact—areas that, if addressed successfully, will lead to profound and lasting change in society.

At FEL, we are committed to creating a world where social ecosystems are not only functional but thriving, where everyone has the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from a healthier, more sustainable, and more just world. Join us as we work to build a future that works for all.
